Rape and murder is something men have probably engaged in since the dawn of time. Our monotheistic religions with their Old Testament view of women as largely second-rate humans who, to be generous (from the texts’ point of view), can barely keep themselves from leading men astray with their wanton ways. To be sure, there have probably always been and always will be better influences for immature males, but they’re not ubiquitous by any means. There are new movements in which men teach men to reconsider how they value and subsequently treat women, but will they keep going and have a lasting effect on young males? We’ll have to wait and see.
