I read about your situation on The Economic Collapse blog. You may be able to get medical treatment for reduced rates or perhaps even for free due to a law called the Hill Burton Act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hill-Burton_Act. This act mandates certain requirements for hospitals that receive Federal aid such as treating the poor and those who can’t afford to pay. I don’t know a whole lot about this law but someone like you may be able to use it to get treatment.
I made a mental note of this law many years ago for the purpose of passing the knowledge along to someone who needs help. Do some research on this law. You may qualify for help.
Hill Burton only applies to hospital charges. People don’t get glaucoma treatment and monitorings from a hospital, they are told to go see a specialist, an ophthalmologist — which Hill Burton does not pay for.
